Slovenia declines to join US-backed Gaza peace board for now
Speaking at a press conference, Golob emphasized that the UN-centered order has protected Slovenia’s national interests and contributed to decades of peace in Europe. He reiterated Ljubljana’s commitment to international law and multilateral frameworks.
Golob said Slovenia might reconsider participation if the board’s focus is narrowed to postwar reconstruction in Gaza and potentially the West Bank. He also stated that he will not attend the signing of the board’s founding charter in Davos, choosing instead to travel to Brussels for consultations with other European Union leaders. These talks aim to coordinate a common EU response to recent developments, including initiatives related to Greenland.
The White House has described the Board of Peace as part of a wider 20-point plan on Gaza endorsed by the UN Security Council in November 2025 under Resolution 2803. The US is expected to announce the full list of participating countries soon. Invitations have been sent to several nations, including Türkiye, Argentina, Belarus, Canada, Australia, Egypt, Hungary, Pakistan, Jordan, Israel, India, and Russia.
The board’s creation was announced last week alongside the approval of the National Committee for the Administration of Gaza, one of four bodies tasked with managing the transitional phase in the enclave.
